Lake Associations

Newaygo County is comprised of 234 natural lakes and ponds, 356 miles of rivers and streams covering 12,543 acres - all offering the finest in recreational facilities and conveniences.

Its four seasons of fun; fishing, boating, canoeing, and swimming in the summer; salmon fishing in the fall; ice fishing, skating, downhill and cross country skiing in the winter; and walleye and trout fishing in the spring.

Many of the lakes within Newaygo County have lake associations that promote the education of property owners and other lake users regarding water quality, conservation, pollution and safety.

The basic purpose of these associations are as follows:

  1. To support issues which concern the welfare of the lake in general, including, but not limited to, the conservation of the water supply in the lake and watershed, the maintenance of the quality of the water safe for swimming and conducive to the renewal of fish resources, the prevention of pollution, and the preservation of navigation;

  2. To support the measurement and evaluation of hydrological data at the lake so that the decisions and actions of the corporation shall be in line with what is best for the lake; and,

  3. To act as a cohesive body to bring issues of interest to or effecting lake residents and users to the attention of governmental entities

Some of the associations have links to their own web sites to give you more information about their area.  We have listed these links below for your convenience.  Also we have included a link to a site that is created by Michigan Lake and Stream Associations, Inc. (ML&SA).
