Emergency Services

Local Emergency Planning Team (LEPT)

All Emergency Services activities are coordinated through the Newaygo County Local Emergency Planning Team (LEPT). The LEPT was established by the Newaygo County Board of Commissioners in 2007 as the permanent Emergency Management advisory body serving the functions of the Homeland Security Local Planning Team (LPT), SARA Title III Hazardous Materials Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), and Citizen Corps Council to provide a forum for representatives of local government, private businesses, and public organizations to participate in community emergency planning and preparedness activities.

LEPT Membership consists of 12 primary members who have been tasked by the Newaygo County Board of Commissioners with responsibility for directing functions in the county emergency action guidelines.  An additional 20+ members play specialized critical supporting roles in the plan under the associated Emergency Advisory Council members.  Meetings consist of General and Activity meetings.  General sessions are utilized to summarize activities and progression to include both Emergency Management functions and Homeland Security functions, while Activity meetings focus on specific projects.  All LEPT members and community officials are invited to attend and participate in both, General and Activity meetings despite their area of focus. All meetings are held at 1:00pm on the third Tuesday of each month and are located at the Emergency Operations Center at 306 North Street, in White Cloud.
