The Department of Community Development was established by the Newaygo County Board of Commissioners in 1979.  The Department is responsible for planning and implementing housing programs to improve and preserve the County’s existing housing.  It is also our goal to provide a safer, healthier home environment for homeowners in Newaygo County.

The housing programs are funded through federal, state and local resources.  The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) is the direct funding agency.

In early 2006, MSHDA awarded Newaygo County a CDBG allocation in the amount of $225,000 for the FY-2004 program, titled “Newaygo County Housing Rehabilitation Program”.  This current housing program has a term of 2 years, starting January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2007.

Program Description:
Newaygo County will use grant/loan funds for Homeowner Rehabilitation and Emergency Repair.  The project will include administrative costs.  Newaygo County will rehabilitate six (6) owner-occupied homes and assist 26 families with emergency repair within the County of Newaygo.
