Newaygo County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority Receives Fremont Area Community Foundation Grant

The NCBRA has received a $25,000 grant from the Fremont Area Community Foundation to provide partial funding to local governments (townships and cities) that want to conduct environmental testing on properties within their jurisdictions. The $25,000 grant has been combined with $25,000 in previous FACF grant funds to provide local governments the opportunity to request funding for 50% of the cost of environmental assessment, up to a maximum of $12,500.  Eligible expenses include Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, Baseline Environmental Assessment, and a remediation plan.

This program has been established because not all environmental remediation is developer-driven or for a specific project.  The goal may not be to generate revenue, but to remediate a hazardous property, and perhaps to market it for re-use in the future. Projects undertaken by local units may not produce a tax increment or fall under the scope of the County-Wide Brownfield Plan, but they still have the potential to benefit the community.

The grant from the Fremont Area Community Foundation was matched by $30,000 from the Newaygo County Board of Commissioners.  The $30,000 has been allocated to fund projects that are expected to produce a  tax increment that will reimburse eligible expenses to the Local Site Remediation Fund.  For more information on the Local Site Remediation Fund click here or contact Marcy Dix
